Why Not Just Replace the Appliance?

People sometimes assume replacement is easier, but consider:

  • A new washer costs $600–1,200. A typical repair is $100–300.
  • A new refrigerator costs $800–2,500. Most refrigerator repairs run $150–400.
  • A new dryer costs $500–900. A heating element replacement (the most common fix) is often under $150 all-in.

We’ll always tell you honestly if a repair doesn’t make financial sense. If the appliance is old and the repair cost is high relative to replacement value, we’ll say so. But in most cases for appliances under 10 years old, repair is the right call.
